All trials are done in a FSSC22000 & HACCP environment to ensure that even at trial levels our customers receive products that are repeatable and meet the high standards we set.

What is FSSC 22000 and what are the benefits to you being our customer?

FSSC 22000 for Food Safety Management Systems provides a framework for effectively managing food safety and quality responsibilities. FSSC 22000 demonstrates that Melbourne Milling has a robust and effective food safety management system (FSMS) in place to meet the requirements of regulators, our food business, our customers and their clients and consumers alike.

The FSSC 22000 Scheme is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and supported by the European Food and Drink Association (CIAA) and the American Groceries Manufacturing Association (GMA).

Other GFSI programs like IFS, BRC & SQF are product certification standards but FSSC 22000 is a management system certification scheme, which means a significant difference in the audit approach – essentially FSSC 22000 provides the framework for Melbourne Milling to implement processes to meet the requirements for our customers.

FSSC 22000 is a Global Food Safety Initiative recognised which guarantees a robust and efficient supply chain. Reduces barriers to entry of greater markets and vendors. Provides a powerful management system which is easily integrated with other systems such as ISO 9001 & ISO 14001. Finally, the integrity program of FSSC 22000 ensures that the certification bodies are professional and adhere to stringent processes, providing confidence in the auditing process.

What is HACCP and what does it mean for our clients?

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) is an internationally recognised method of identifying and managing food safety related risk and, when central to an active food safety program, can provide our customers, the public, and regulatory agencies assurance that a food safety program is well managed.

HACCP is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished product.

Today, many of the world’s best manufacturers and vendors use the system as a basis for their food safety management programs and for compliance with GFSI audit schemes.

Through analysis of hazards and where they can occur, Melbourne Milling helps implement systems and procedures to minimize risk. Melbourne Milling provides a truly hands-on food safety management system at each and every operation in assisting in the management of critical control points.

A food safety program, however, does not just stop with HACCP. To be effective, prerequisite programs such as pest control, traceability & recall, hygiene and sanitation also need to be developed and implemented. Additionally, the issue of ensuring that suppliers and distributors also have a food safety program needs to be addressed through development of ingredient specifications and a vendor assurance system.

HACCP stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points and outlines seven key principles in food safety:

Hazard Analysis
Critical Control Points
Critical Limits
Critical Control Monitoring
Corrective Action
Procedures
Record Keeping

The seven HACCP principles are included in the international standard ISO 22000 FSMS 2005 and are implemented in many Food Safety Programs all around the world including us here at Melbourne Milling.

What is NASSA Organic?

The NASAA Organic certification process involves an extensive evaluation of a business's production and processing practices, including inspection of facilities, review of records, and testing of products to ensure compliance with their organic standards. These standards are based on the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, which prioritise soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem protection.

In addition to the organic certification, NASAA also provides certification for products labeled as "Certified Biodynamic." Biodynamic farming is a holistic approach that treats the farm as a living organism, integrating natural cycles and cosmic rhythms into agricultural practices.

By obtaining NASAA Organic certification, businesses can demonstrate their commitment to sustainable agriculture practices and the production of organic and biodynamic products that meet strict standards for environmental sustainability, animal welfare, and food safety. This certification can help businesses differentiate their products in the market and gain consumer trust in their organic and biodynamic products.

Overall, NASAA Organic plays an important role in promoting sustainable agriculture practices in Australia and ensuring that organic and biodynamic products meet strict standards for environmental sustainability, animal welfare, and food safety.

What is Kosher?

Kosher food is any food or beverage that Jewish dietary laws allow a person to eat. It isn’t a style of cooking. Keeping kosher is much more complex than that. Rules are the foundation of kosher food.

Rooted in history and religion, each law is specific about what types of food you can and can't eat. The laws are also strict about the way you prepare, process, and inspect food if you're going to call it kosher.

Keeping kosher is a commitment. It governs what you eat and the way you prepare your meals and use your kitchen and dishes every day. But anyone can eat kosher food. You probably have kosher items in your pantry right now.

What is Halal?

Halal certification is a service provided to food businesses that ensures their products comply with Islamic dietary laws. Halal is an Arabic word that means "permissible" and refers to foods that are allowed under Islamic dietary guidelines.

The Halal certification process involves an evaluation of a business's production and processing practices to ensure compliance with the Islamic dietary laws. This includes inspection of facilities, review of records, and testing of products to ensure that they do not contain any prohibited ingredients or contaminants.

Halal certification is important for businesses that want to expand their customer base to include those who follow Halal dietary practices. In many countries, including Australia, there is a significant Muslim population that follows Halal dietary guidelines, and businesses that obtain Halal certification can tap into this market. Halal certification can also be an important factor in gaining the trust of Muslim consumers, who are looking for assurance that the products they purchase meet their dietary requirements.

Overall, Halal certification is an important service that helps food businesses ensure their products comply with Islamic dietary laws, expand their customer base, and gain the trust of Muslim consumers.
